Currently the field of Spiritual Psychology is not recognized by American Psychological Association, but is recognized within a division of psychology of religion and spirituality, being one of their specialties.

So, you might be wondering what does a spiritual Psychologist actually do in a session. Well they can help when someone is in a spiritual crisis. The environment would be a safe space to explore such issues.

The Spiritual Psychologist may employ techniques from their own beliefs or from the patients. Guided visualizations is a popular technique often utilized by the psychologist. This can cover areas such a peak experiences, music therapy, near death experiences, meditation just to mention a few.

Now you maybe thing, Are Spiritual Psychologists as qualified as regular Psychologists? Most Spiritual Psychologists have a Bachelor’s degree in general psychology with courses including clinical psychology and developmental psychology. Students may also take classes in theology.

A high degree of spiritual psychologists go on to take further advanced degrees in spiritual psychology or counseling psychology with a focus on spirituality.
